The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the game, Edgar Niebel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Curslack's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Engbüttel the free kick. After 5 played minutes Curslack got a freekick which was hit by Edgar Niebel. In the 8th minute Georgi Alexis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ole Burkhardt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 10th minute, Herbert Lehmann got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ole Burkhardt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Georgi Alexis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Joschka Rapolder hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that Thomas Breukelmann's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ole Burkhardt was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. Herbert Lehmann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Reinhard Hilligloh tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ole Burkhardt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thomas Breukelmann, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Georgi Alexis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ole Burkhardt having to interfere. In the 30th minute, Curslack's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Herbert Lehmann fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A collision led to Curslack getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Tom Sacher hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Engbüttel defense, Georgi Alexis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ole Burkhardt. The Engbüttel fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ole Burkhardt should have stopped the shot. Engbüttel's Ole Burkhardt played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edgar Niebel in the 39th minute of play. Nicholas Drengenburg could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Reinhard Hilligloh made a huge save. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Frank Quacken to make the kick off. Ole Burkhardt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Georgi Alexis in the 54th minute of play. Morten Wessler kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. If Herbert Lehmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 62 played minutes Curslack got a freekick which was hit by Edgar Niebel. Herbert Lehmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reinhard Hilligloh having to interfere. After having played for 67 minutes, Herbert Lehmann managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Engbüttel's supporters crossed their fingers, but Herbert Lehmann was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Georgi Alexis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Engbüttel's Herbert Lehmann got a good chance for a goal in the 74th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 75th minute, Leo Pütz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Curslack's Reinhard Hilligloh played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Herbert Lehmann in the 76th minute of play. Thomas Breukelmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ole Burkhardt having to interfere. Alexander Merseburger, 80 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Thomas Breukelmann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Ole Burkhardt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Engbüttel's zone, Lennard Brockes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ole Burkhardt came out of the goal and Lennard Brockes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 89 minutes, Thomas Breukelmann managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Curslack's supporters crossed their fingers, but Thomas Breukelmann was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 92 minutes into the match, Engbüttel's goalkeeper Ole Burkhardt had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Thomas Breukelmann. 93 minutes in the game, Georgi Alexis fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Ole Burkhardt having to interfere. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Curslack eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
