After having played for 19 minutes, Claudius van Essen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SpVgg Mittelfranken 73's supporters crossed their fingers, but Claudius van Essen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Erdhütte's zone, Claudius van Essen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bernhard Werling came out of the goal and Claudius van Essen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bernhard Werling made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Urs Mahne in the 23rd minute of play. Marco Horstmann received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jakob Berrang came out and tried to block the shot, but Marco Horstmann slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 25th minute. Ralf Bader hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marco Horstmann stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the game, Mustafa Gebuhr was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SpVgg Mittelfranken 73's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Erdhütte the free kick. After 52 played minutes SpVgg Mittelfranken 73 got a freekick which was hit by Mustafa Gebuhr. An unexpectedly hard shot by Urs Mahne in the 54th minute of play forced Erdhütte's goalkeeper Bernhard Werling to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 56th match minute, Erdhütte was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Boris Schmiederkal to maneuver through the defense. Claudius van Essen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 59 minutes into the match, SpVgg Mittelfranken 73's goal looked a bit too open when Dennis-Sven Dettinger came free, but Jakob Berrang reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. SpVgg Mittelfranken 73's Niko Saager got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Erdhütte's Bernhard Werling played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Claudius van Essen in the 62nd minute of play. When Claudius van Essen came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the SpVgg Mittelfranken 73 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Claudius van Essen couldn't finish the play. Niko Saager fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bernhard Werling having to interfere. In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind Erdhütte's goalkeeper Bernhard Werling, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. SpVgg Mittelfranken 73's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
