Neubrandenburg's Arko Lau played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sandor Bergsohn in the 3rd minute of play. 7 minutes into the game, Günter Clemens was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ludwigsburg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Neubrandenburg the free kick. Bernd Kahlert received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Gunther Schaub tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 9 minutes into the match, Julian Sünneke notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Ludwigsburg's Gunther Schaub. Gunther Schaub was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 12 played minutes Neubrandenburg got a freekick which was hit by Fritz Rudolf Bankett. In the 14th minute, Julian Sünneke got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ludwigsburg's Gunther Schaub played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fritz Rudolf Bankett in the 18th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Karsten Scheepers during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 19 played minutes Ludwigsburg got a freekick which was hit by Karsten Scheepers. 20 minutes into the match, Ludwigsburg's goal looked a bit too open when Bernd Kahlert came free, but Gunther Schaub reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gunther Schaub took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bernd Kahlert, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 39th match minute, Neubrandenburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tjard Buhlert to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Neubrandenburg's Arko Lau got control of the ball when Günter Clemens tried to sneak it across the goal line. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sandor Bergsohn stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Wolfram Moos was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 53 minutes into the match. 53 minutes into the game, one of Ludwigsburg:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Ludwigsburg:s Gunther Schaub showed great skill when he stopped Julian Sünneke:s penalty. In the 56th minute Neubrandenburg were awarded a corner. Julian Sünneke went to the cornerflag to take it. Gunther Schaub showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Sünneke, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. The supporters of Neubrandenburg booed when Ludwigsburg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Karsten Scheepers didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 62nd minute Fritz Rudolf Bankett shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gunther Schaub saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Many of Neubrandenburg's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Neubrandenburg may have spent more time on the ball, but Ludwigsburg were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
