A hard shot 3 in the game by Laurențiu Cinteză from a close distance when the talented Lance Malliouris managed to make a qualified save. FC Schonebeck's players were relieved. Volker Harm made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mustafa Ekrem Avşar in the 8th minute of play. The corner led FC Schonebeck's Paul Some to fire away a dangerous shot which Volker Harm despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Pompiliu Roşculeţ kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Lance Malliouris. That made the score 1-0 in the 10 minute of play. Boris Spengler sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. FC Schonebeck's Anselm Hayer got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bengt Persson in the 21st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Volker Harm prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Volker Harm made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anselm Hayer in the 24th minute of play. Lance Malliouris made an important save on a dangerous shot by Laurențiu Cinteză in the 25th minute. FC Hamburg's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Hendrik Holletschek in the 26th minute. Bengt Persson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Volker Harm read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. The supporters of FC Hamburg booed when FC Schonebeck was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Boris Spengler didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 31 minutes FC Schonebeck's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Hendrik Holletschek who took care of the corner kick. After some careless play in the FC Schonebeck defense, Laurențiu Cinteză kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lance Malliouris. The FC Schonebeck fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lance Malliouris should have stopped the shot. Lance Malliouris was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Pompiliu Roşculeţ showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-0 in the 40 minute of play. 47 minutes into the match, FC Schonebeck's Mustafa Ekrem Avşar sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Volker Harm narrowly saved just below the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bengt Persson was the one to do the kick off. In the 50th minute Laurențiu Cinteză shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lance Malliouris saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thoralf Blohm in the 52nd minute of play forced FC Schonebeck's goalkeeper Lance Malliouris to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lance Malliouris showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Laurențiu Cinteză in the 55th minute of the match. In the 58th minute, Pompiliu Roşculeţ ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lance Malliouris was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Anselm Hayer in the 63rd minute of play forced FC Hamburg's goalkeeper Volker Harm to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. FC Schonebeck were awarded a corner in the 65th minute after FC Hamburg's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Paul Some took the corner. 72 minutes into the match, FC Schonebeck's goal looked a bit too open when Manfred Kottsieper came free, but Lance Malliouris reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With his leg Volker Harm managed to avoid a goal in the 75thth minute, when FC Schonebeck's Bengt Persson fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Lance Malliouris showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pompiliu Roşculeţ in the 80th minute of the match. Lance Malliouris showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Laurențiu Cinteză, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Lothar Drinkard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Volker Harm having to interfere. In the 94th match minute, FC Hamburg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hendrik Holletschek to maneuver through the defense. FC Hamburg's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
