The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 2 minutes into the game, Willy Cesters was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. VC Hofstade's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Schelle the free kick. A collision led to VC Hofstade getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Willy Cesters hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in VC Hofstade's zone, Emmanuel Hoes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Adolf Jannis came out of the goal and Emmanuel Hoes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience was convinced that Bob Van der Vorst's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Adolf Jannis was relentless in the 6th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bob Van der Vorst in the 11th minute of play forced VC Hofstade's goalkeeper Adolf Jannis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Emmanuel Hoes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 16th minute Emmanuel Hoes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Adolf Jannis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Thijs Van Looy fell near the penalty area in the 21st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored VC Hofstade's protests and gave Thijs Van Looy a yellow card for diving instead. In the 21st minute, Thijs Van Looy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Bob Van der Vorst had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 26 minutes into the game, VC Hofstade's Wayne Devaux nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. George Lanphant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Bob Van der Vorst received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Adolf Jannis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 35th minute, Isaac Flocquier hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 38th minute Bob Van der Vorst shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Adolf Jannis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Adolf Jannis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emmanuel Hoes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to VC Hofstade getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Stan Panhuijsen hit a great ball. Wayne Devaux struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. George Lanphant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for VC Hofstade. Adolf Jannis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Bob Van der Vorst, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Adolf Jannis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bob Van der Vorst, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bob Van der Vorst in the 53rd minute of play forced VC Hofstade's goalkeeper Adolf Jannis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 55 minutes, Bertan Wolfs mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the VC Hofstade and the Schelle players grew even worse after the yellow card. Adolf Jannis didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 56th minute, which inside left pole to 1-1. A collision led to VC Hofstade getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Stan Panhuijsen hit a great ball. George Lanphant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wayne Devaux in the 72nd minute of the match. Schelle's George Lanphant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Niels Van Linthout in the 73rd minute of play. If Bob Van der Vorst had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Niels Van Linthout received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. George Lanphant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. George Lanphant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thijs Van Looy in the 85th minute of play. After 90 played minutes VC Hofstade got a freekick which was hit by Stan Panhuijsen. Stan Panhuijsen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 98th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without George Lanphant having to interfere. Schelle's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
