But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Julien Versluys couldn't finish the play. Gerrit Winnepenninckx showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Werner Elsens in the 14th minute of the match. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Geten's goalkeeper Thierry Deckers, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 19th minute, Alan Salms hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 21st minute Werner Elsens shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerrit Winnepenninckx saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 25 minutes into the match, Ief Standaerts had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Thierry Deckers. Geten's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ief Standaerts was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. 31 minutes into the match, Neerbroek's goalkeeper Gerrit Winnepenninckx had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dre Van hoegaerde. Werner Elsens received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Gerrit Winnepenninckx tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 34th minute the ball was on its way in behind Neerbroek's goalkeeper Gerrit Winnepenninckx, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Dre Van hoegaerde fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gerrit Winnepenninckx having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dre Van hoegaerde got free with Gerrit Winnepenninckx in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Neerbroek booed when Geten was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Julien Versluys didn't get a good kick on the ball. Geten's Thierry Deckers played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dimitri de Pelsmaekers in the 47th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Werner Elsens stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Ief Standaerts got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 57 minutes into the match, Dimitri de Pelsmaekers had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Thierry Deckers. Thierry Deckers made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. When Reinaud Delcomte fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Neerbroek's protests and gave Reinaud Delcomte a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 77th minute of the game. One of Neerbroek:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Geten:s goal. If Ief Standaerts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Dimitri de Pelsmaekers fell near the penalty area in the 89th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Neerbroek's protests and gave Dimitri de Pelsmaekers a yellow card for diving instead.
