The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Through an outstanding action, after 3 minutes, Ernest van Haghten successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Vince Flocquier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edgard Justus in the 5th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 6th minute, Werner Denijs managed to get in a good position for a shot. KAA Bautersem's supporters rose to their feet, but Werner Denijs was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Vince Flocquier breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of KAA Bautersem booed when Vaul-Chavanne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nic Kuppens didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edgard Justus received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Vince Flocquier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Daniel Cempeners had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 11 minutes, Lode Van Dijck managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vaul-Chavanne's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lode Van Dijck was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vince Flocquier didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Edgard Justus went, in the 14th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lode Van Dijck in the 18th minute of play forced KAA Bautersem's goalkeeper Ernest van Haghten to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vince Flocquier showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edgard Justus, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Arthur-Maurits Coenen's late challenge caught a KAA Bautersem's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Arthur-Maurits Coenen helped the player get up and apologised. After 29 played minutes Vaul-Chavanne got a freekick which was hit by Arthur-Maurits Coenen. Lode Van Dijck recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 33rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Edgard Justus received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Vince Flocquier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Werner Denijs struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Vince Flocquier didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for KAA Bautersem. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

After 58 played minutes KAA Bautersem's Werner Denijs stole the ball from his opponents and shot the ball towards the upper left corner, but Vince Flocquier stretched himself as far as he could, and stopped the ball from passing the line. robbing Vaul-Chavanne of the goal. Ernest van Haghten took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lode Van Dijck, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vaul-Chavanne's Vince Flocquier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edgard Justus in the 84th minute of play. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vaul-Chavanne's goalkeeper Vince Flocquier, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Werner Denijs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Vince Flocquier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Vaul-Chavanne's zone, Edgard Justus stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vince Flocquier came out of the goal and Edgard Justus tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Vaul-Chavanne fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. KAA Bautersem were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
