Sint-Michiels's supporters crossed their fingers, but Robbe De Raeijmaeker was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Izak Lanen in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gill Wolfdoncx prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gill Wolfdoncx showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Izak Lanen, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 18th minute, Philip Geldhof managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lier's supporters rose to their feet, but Philip Geldhof was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gill Wolfdoncx breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gill Wolfdoncx took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Izak Lanen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Izak Lanen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wesley Verhulst made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Robbe De Raeijmaeker sent off a good shot on target. In the 26th minute, Luc Roscams hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Robbe De Raeijmaeker could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Wesley Verhulst made a huge save. When Benjamin Van Haerschot fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lier's protests and gave Benjamin Van Haerschot a yellow card for diving instead. After 33 played minutes Lier got a freekick which was hit by Benjamin Van Haerschot. Wesley Verhulst was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Loui Neef showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 38 minute of play. Philip Geldhof took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gill Wolfdoncx. Gill Wolfdoncx dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Wesley Verhulst took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Loui Neef, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Sint-Michiels were awarded a corner in the 53th minute after Lier's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Freddy Sustens took the corner. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Lier's goalie and right to Robbe De Raeijmaeker. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Lier's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Lier's Benjamin Van Haerschot got his second yellow card of the match in the 56th minute. The referee ordered Benjamin Van Haerschot off the ground. In the 57th minute, Benjamin Van Haerschot hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 60 minutes into the match, Sint-Michiels's goalkeeper Gill Wolfdoncx had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Izak Lanen. In the 68th minute Loui Neef shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wesley Verhulst saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 68 minutes into the match, Lier's goal looked a bit too open when Loui Neef came free, but Wesley Verhulst reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sint-Michiels's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lier the free kick. Gwenn Van Deuren kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. After 85 played minutes Sint-Michiels got a freekick which was hit by Franck Maes. When Sint-Michiels's Robbe De Raeijmaeker in the 95th minute got a chance for a shot 95th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Lier's goalie prevented a goal.
