FC Bruges's Luc Van Hinnendael proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 5th minute of the match, managed to save FC Bruges from getting a goal against them. Waut Van Der Meeren made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ken Brogren in the 10th minute of play. In the 11th minute, Jesús De la Torre hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Waut Van Der Meeren took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mac Mon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to FC Bruges getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Mac Mon hit a great ball. In the 15th minute Nicu Vornicu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luc Van Hinnendael saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luc Van Hinnendael made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nestor Cruz in the 16th minute. Nicu Vornicu's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 18thth minute, Luc Van Hinnendael skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. The supporters of Anversa Club booed when FC Bruges was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Shane Corrigan didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Philip Verhasselt in the 48th minute of play forced Anversa Club's goalkeeper Waut Van Der Meeren to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Xavies Muñagorri made a kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mac Mon got free with Waut Van Der Meeren in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Anversa Club's Waut Van Der Meeren proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 60th minute of the match, managed to save Anversa Club from getting a goal against them. After 65 played minutes Anversa Club got a freekick which was hit by Nestor Cruz. If Nicu Vornicu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. FC Bruges had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
