Nazar Pylypchuk charged in rather forcefully in the 2nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nazar Pylypchuk the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. When Stanislav Velychko fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sunrise's protests and gave Stanislav Velychko a yellow card for diving instead. In the 10th match minute, Sunrise was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stanislav Velychko to maneuver through the defense. Yuriy Nakonechnyi's late challenge caught a VFL WOLFSBURG's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 19 minutes into the game, Rodion Yarovenko recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Anton Blavatsjkyi. Anton Blavatsjkyi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sunrise. Anton Blavatsjkyi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rodion Yarovenko in the 24th minute of play. Gennadiy Yalanskyi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yarema Karamushka having to interfere. After having played for 34 minutes, Lyubomyr Kremenchutskyi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. VFL WOLFSBURG's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lyubomyr Kremenchutskyi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Anton Skorokhod could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Anton Blavatsjkyi made a huge save. Sunrise's Anton Skorokhod got a good chance for a goal in the 47th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Lyubomyr Kremenchutskyi made a kick off. Stanislav Velychko hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. When VFL WOLFSBURG's Gennadiy Yalanskyi, in the 54th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for VFL WOLFSBURG. Vladyslav Vitiv's late challenge caught a Sunrise's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. Sunrise's Yarema Karamushka played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lyubomyr Kremenchutskyi in the 70th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Gennadiy Yalanskyi managed to get in a good position for a shot. VFL WOLFSBURG's supporters rose to their feet, but Gennadiy Yalanskyi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Yarema Karamushka breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Yarema Karamushka showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lyubomyr Kremenchutskyi in the 75th minute of the match. When Yevgen Povalchuk fell near the penalty area in the 75th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. VFL WOLFSBURG were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Sunrise's much stronger midfield.
