After a defensive mix-up in Göktas's zone, Nejat Kocaman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nurettin Baştuğ came out of the goal and Nejat Kocaman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Göktas's Nurettin Baştuğ got control of the ball when Nejat Kocaman tried to sneak it across the goal line. 11 minutes into the match, Göktas's goalkeeper Nurettin Baştuğ had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nejat Kocaman. When Ahmet Koralp Reşan fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Göktas's protests and gave Ahmet Koralp Reşan a yellow card for diving instead. Ahmet Koralp Reşan hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Galatasaray's Naim Hallaç slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Nurettin Baştuğ. That made the score 1-0 after 15 minutes of play. Nurettin Baştuğ showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Naim Hallaç in the 19th minute of the match. In the 33rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Göktas's goalkeeper Nurettin Baştuğ, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 35 played minutes Göktas got a freekick which was hit by Ahmet Koralp Reşan. After 36 played minutes, Galatasaray's Kuddusî Bayram shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nurettin Baştuğ came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Galatasaray reached it. Nejat Kocaman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nurettin Baştuğ having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Göktas's Ahmet Koralp Reşan got a free kick in the 38th minute. If Naim Hallaç had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Muhittin Seha in the 45th minute of play forced Galatasaray's goalkeeper Harun Yiğitoğlu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 46th minute, Nejat Kocaman got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

55 minutes into the match, Galatasaray's Naim Hallaç sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nurettin Baştuğ narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Naim Hallaç had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Nurettin Baştuğ showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Naim Hallaç in the 62nd minute of the match. Galatasaray's Harun Yiğitoğlu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Galatasaray from getting a goal against them. When Galatasaray's Naim Hallaç in 68 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Nurettin Baştuğ guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. A collision led to Galatasaray getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Bora Karataş hit a great ball. After 71 played minutes Galatasaray got a freekick which was hit by Süreyya Birsoy. Harun Yiğitoğlu was out of position in the 74 minute of play, and Muhittin Seha capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Muhittin Seha really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Naim Hallaç fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nurettin Baştuğ having to interfere. Cankut Raif struck a weak shot in the 80th minute. Harun Yiğitoğlu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Göktas. Naim Hallaç fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nurettin Baştuğ having to interfere. In the 92nd minute, Naim Hallaç got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Naim Hallaç in the 94th minute of play forced Göktas's goalkeeper Nurettin Baştuğ to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Naim Hallaç might have been able to make a better finish in the 96th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nurettin Baştuğ. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Naim Hallaç ran back to his position shaking his head. Despite being the better team, Galatasaray failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
