Atalan Mahmut was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Beyhan Torgay. Galatasaray's Cuma Sirri played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Avni Özdeş in the 21st minute of play. Murat Dalan made a great header on FK1864's corner, it was just that Galatasaray's Cuma Sirri managed to reach the ball for a save. When Altan Ataoğlu fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Galatasaray's protests and gave Altan Ataoğlu a yellow card for diving instead. Cuma Sirri was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Zé Bebian made the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Galatasaray booed when FK1864 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sezen Tümenbay didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in FK1864's zone, Beyhan Torgay stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Atalan Mahmut came out of the goal and Beyhan Torgay tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cuma Sirri made an important save on a dangerous shot by Avni Özdeş in the 95th minute. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Galatasaray fully deserved thier win.
