The audience thought a goal was coming when Ercüment Laçin got free with Habib Okatay in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 11th minute, Çağan Deniz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ercüment Laçin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Habib Okatay made a huge save. Aras Kamran hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. In the 18th minute, Özcan Garip ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Peyami Kalhan was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Ercüment Laçin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Habib Okatay having to interfere. galatasay's defense didn't have a chance, in the 24th minute, when Çağan Deniz scored to the left of an out of position Habib Okatay, making the score, 1-2. Göktürk Sağcan's late challenge caught a galatasay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Göktürk Sağcan helped the player get up and apologised. Göktürk Sağcan hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. In the 32nd minute, Çağan Deniz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 35th play minutes Vahit Cangun shot 2-2, a short shot which went by Habib Okatay and just under the crossbar into goal. Seyfettin Erincer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peyami Kalhan having to interfere. A collision led to galatasay getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Sermet Yılğıralp hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Özcan Garip managed to get in a good position for a shot. galatasay's supporters rose to their feet, but Özcan Garip was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Peyami Kalhan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Seyfettin Erincer's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Peyami Kalhan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Özcan Garip to make the kick off. A wasted opportunity for galatasay. 72 minutes into the game, Ercüment Laçin cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-3. Habib Okatay was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Habib Okatay took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Çağan Deniz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 77th match minute, galatasay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by İnanç Tunç to maneuver through the defense. Mecidiyeköy FK's Ercüment Laçin got a good chance for a goal in the 79th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. galatasay's Habib Okatay played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ercüment Laçin in the 81st minute of play.
