The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Olgun Toycan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Özcan İrfan in the 7th minute. Doğaner Sualp charged in rather forcefully in the 7th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Doğaner Sualp the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to EDİRNE FC getting a freekick after 7 minutes play. Doğaner Sualp hit a great ball. 1-0 became the score in the 10th minute when Özcan İrfan elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Yiğit Palabıyık stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mümin Özbal's shot from short distance in the 17th minute. 19 minutes into the match, Mümin Özbal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Yiğit Palabıyık. Güzelyurt's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mümin Özbal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Lefter Eymen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Olgun Toycan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Özcan İrfan got free with Olgun Toycan in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Hürkan Yekta hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. In the 37th minute, Özcan İrfan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 39 minutes into the match, EDİRNE FC's goalkeeper Olgun Toycan had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Özcan İrfan. The supporters of Güzelyurt booed when EDİRNE FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hürkan Yekta didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 41st minute Ramiz Kutlualp shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olgun Toycan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Mümin Özbal came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the EDİRNE FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mümin Özbal couldn't finish the play. 47 minutes into the match, Güzelyurt's goal looked a bit too open when Mümin Özbal came free, but Yiğit Palabıyık reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

In the 55thth minute of the game Özcan İrfan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but EDİRNE FC's Olgun Toycan was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Binali İlmen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Özcan İrfan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Binali İlmen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yiğit Palabıyık having to interfere. EDİRNE FC's Mümin Özbal got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Güzelyurt's Yiğit Palabıyık played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Binali İlmen in the 75th minute of play. A collision led to EDİRNE FC getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Kartal Sani hit a great ball. Olgun Toycan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Özcan İrfan, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute. After 84 played minutes EDİRNE FC got a freekick which was hit by Kartal Sani. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ramiz Kutlualp in the 85th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Olgun Toycan prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 92nd minute of the match EDİRNE FC got a corner. Güzelyurt's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Behlül Vechi ran over to the corner to take the kick. The EDİRNE FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing EDİRNE FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
