Fedai Zirve made in the 16th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by SakaryaSpor's Eyüp Durna. When Petruț Băbescu fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SakaryaSpor's protests and gave Petruț Băbescu a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Werder Bremen booed when SakaryaSpor was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Petruț Băbescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Balamir Kantürk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sait Mülayim in the 24th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in SakaryaSpor's zone, Yıldırım Özerk stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Balamir Kantürk came out of the goal and Yıldırım Özerk tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Balamir Kantürk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yıldırım Özerk in the 28th minute of the match. Balamir Kantürk didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Sait Mülayim went, in the 33rd minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Balamir Kantürk showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from İlker Akıncıbeyoğlu, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Aysan Işıklar scored 0-3 in the 42nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Balamir Kantürk, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After the first half Werder Bremen were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tugay Özdil was the one to do the kick off. When the match clock showed 57 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Tugay Özdil sped through Werder Bremen's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Selmi Bozer. Selmi Bozer stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Tugay Özdil's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. When Deniz İpekçi came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the SakaryaSpor fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Deniz İpekçi couldn't finish the play. Werder Bremen's Berke Cengaver was substituted for Yıldırım Özerk. In the 70th match minute, SakaryaSpor was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Deniz İpekçi to maneuver through the defense. After 75 played minutes Werder Bremen got a freekick which was hit by Necdet Ersan. In the 79th minute, Berke Cengaver hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Balamir Kantürk made an important save on a dangerous shot by Aysan Işıklar in the 86th minute. Balamir Kantürk showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Berke Cengaver in the 87th minute of the match. 88 minutes into the game, SakaryaSpor's Deniz İpekçi nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Selmi Bozer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. SakaryaSpor's Tugay Özdil got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The SakaryaSpor fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Werder Bremen were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
