When the match clock showed 4 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Nikita Anuchin sped through Novokuznetsk's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Gennadiy Erichev. In the 7th minute of the match, Nikita Anuchin got a very nice opportunity to score, but Gennadiy Erichev was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Volzhsky FC were awarded a corner in the 8th minute after Novokuznetsk's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Anatoliy Medvedev took the corner. In the 10th match minute, Novokuznetsk was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rostislav Tulegenov to maneuver through the defense. 11 minutes into the game, Sergey Marfin was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Novokuznetsk's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Volzhsky FC the free kick. In the 11th minute, Sergey Marfin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nikita Anuchins short, quick shot in the 17thth minute got Gennadiy Erichev to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Bronislav Strizhev had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Volzhsky FC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Vasiliy Blagitko hit a great ball. Vladislav Vaupshasov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gennadiy Erichev showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nikolay Kogan, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. After 33 played minutes, Novokuznetsk's Georgiy Bakhvostov shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Arseniy Barkovskiy came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Novokuznetsk reached it. After a rather tough play, Volzhsky FC's Gennadiy Levanevskiy got a free kick in the 33rd minute. After 35 played minutes, Novokuznetsk's Felix Seitaliev shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Arseniy Barkovskiy came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Novokuznetsk reached it. If Nikita Anuchin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Bronislav Strizhev was extremely unlucky when he, in the 51st minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After having played for 54 minutes, Bronislav Strizhev managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Novokuznetsk's supporters crossed their fingers, but Bronislav Strizhev was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Bronislav Strizhev managed to get in a good position for a shot. Novokuznetsk's supporters rose to their feet, but Bronislav Strizhev was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Arseniy Barkovskiy breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Novokuznetsk's Gennadiy Erichev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nikita Anuchin in the 67th minute of play. Vladislav Vaupshasov fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arseniy Barkovskiy having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bronislav Strizhev in the 73rd minute of play forced Volzhsky FC's goalkeeper Arseniy Barkovskiy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 77 minutes into the match, Nikolay Kogan had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gennadiy Erichev. Novokuznetsk's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nikolay Kogan was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Arseniy Barkovskiy stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bronislav Strizhev's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. After some careless play in the Volzhsky FC defense, Vladislav Vaupshasov kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Arseniy Barkovskiy. The Volzhsky FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arseniy Barkovskiy should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, Novokuznetsk's Evgeniy Pakhomov got a free kick in the 88th minute. Novokuznetsk were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
