Velikiy Novgorod FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Valentin Mokrushev was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Sergey Pavlunovskiy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vladimir Zuev having to interfere. Oleg Bobylev's late challenge caught a Oktyabrsky FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Oleg Bobylev helped the player get up and apologised. After 20 played minutes Velikiy Novgorod FC got a freekick which was hit by Oleg Bobylev. Sergey Pavlunovskiy's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vladimir Zuev read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. Valentin Mokrushev struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. Vladimir Zuev didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. Oktyabrsky FC's Vadim Yafa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matvey Titov in the 46th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The wind increased when Grigoriy Hizhnyakov made the kick off in the second half. Vladimir Zuev showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Viktor Kirillov, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Anatoliy Alenichev hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. In the 63rd minute of the match Timur Ladyzhnikov sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Vadim Yafa skillfully saved the ball. When the match had gone on for 64 minutes, Grigoriy Hizhnyakov put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Vadim Yafa. Nikita Meleshko hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. 86 minutes into the match, Oktyabrsky FC's goal looked a bit too open when Grigoriy Hizhnyakov came free, but Vadim Yafa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matvey Titov sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Matvey Titov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Oktyabrsky FC defense, Grigoriy Hizhnyakov kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Vadim Yafa. The Oktyabrsky FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vadim Yafa should have stopped the shot. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
