Veniamin Kastyrin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Veniamin Kastyrin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pavel Knutov in the 39th minute of play. Veniamin Kastyrin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Pavel Knutov's shot from short distance in the 40th minute. When Andrey Kushnarenko came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Andrey Kushnarenko couldn't finish the play. Aleksandr Babarykin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pavel Knutov in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Veniamin Kastyrin saved Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk from getting behind. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Novy Urengoy's performance. The match ended with a win for Novy Urengoy.
