The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dmitriy Ohrimenko during the 3rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ruslan Protasenko received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Konstantin Andrianov tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 7 minutes into the match, Smolensk's goal looked a bit too open when Ruslan Protasenko came free, but Konstantin Andrianov reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Konstantin Deduhs short, quick shot in the 13thth minute got Joost De Ruyter to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 15thth minute of the game Pavel Galtsev who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Локомотив Москва's Joost De Ruyter was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Igor Bakhovkin kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. After having played for 17 minutes, Konstantin Deduh managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Smolensk's supporters crossed their fingers, but Konstantin Deduh was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ruslan Protasenko might have been able to make a better finish in the 25th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Konstantin Andrianov. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ruslan Protasenko ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 30th minute, Mark Arabov reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Joost De Ruyter. The goal made the score 1-0. Smolensk's Nikita Fedoseev pulled a muscle in his leg after 35 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When German Kazachenok fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Локомотив Москва's protests and gave German Kazachenok a yellow card for diving instead. After 36 played minutes Локомотив Москва got a freekick which was hit by German Kazachenok. Ruslan Protasenko sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Silantiy Klements managed to get in a good position for a shot. Локомотив Москва's supporters rose to their feet, but Silantiy Klements was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Konstantin Andrianov breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Konstantin Deduh got free with Joost De Ruyter in the 48th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Konstantin Deduh stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute Smolensk were awarded a corner. Samuil Turov went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Samuil Turov almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Локомотив Москва's Joost De Ruyter did a great save. 60 minutes into the match, Локомотив Москва's Silantiy Klements sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Konstantin Andrianov narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Innokentiy Lytkin kicked well hit freekick during the 70th minute of the match. Konstantin Deduh fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joost De Ruyter having to interfere. When Konstantin Deduh came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Smolensk fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Konstantin Deduh couldn't finish the play. German Kazachenok got his second yellow card in the match during the 76th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 76th minute, German Kazachenok hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Innokentiy Lytkin could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Konstantin Andrianov made a huge save. Локомотив Москва's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
