Boris Seleznev was out of position in the 16 minute of play, and Mikhail Yunkov capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Mikhail Yunkov really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. With splendid footwork Mikhail Yunkov arrived in front of goal to shoot 2-0 by the left pole in the game's 20th minute. The audience was convinced that Ernest Gorshkov's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gordey Osetrov was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. Gordey Osetrov showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ernest Gorshkov, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. In the 28th match minute, Vologda was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arkadiy Rubisov to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Konstantin Smirnov got free with Boris Seleznev in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Boris Seleznev took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mikhail Yunkov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Volgograd FC getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Stanislav Hramov hit a great ball. Konstantin Smirnov was extremely unlucky when he, in the 43rd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Konstantin Smirnov scored 3-0 in the 45th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Boris Seleznev, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mikhail Yunkov stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Konstantin Smirnov fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 51st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Boris Seleznev having to interfere. 56 minutes into the match, Vologda's goalkeeper Gordey Osetrov had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kirill Barobonov. Nikolay Bondarenko's late challenge caught a Vologda's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nikolay Bondarenko helped the player get up and apologised. In the 61st minute, Nikolay Bondarenko hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 64 minutes, Ernest Gorshkov managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Volgograd FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ernest Gorshkov was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gordey Osetrov came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Volgograd FC's Kirill Barobonov. But to his dismay, Kirill Barobonov quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ernest Gorshkov in the 71st minute of play forced Vologda's goalkeeper Gordey Osetrov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 73rd minute of the match Volgograd FC got a corner. Vologda's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Viktor Gorbachev ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Volgograd FC's Viktor Gorbachev to fire away a dangerous shot which Gordey Osetrov despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Boris Seleznev took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Konstantin Smirnov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 87th match minute, Vologda was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arkadiy Rubisov to maneuver through the defense. If Kirill Barobonov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ernest Gorshkov received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Gordey Osetrov tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vologda's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
