Denis Gromovich came out of the goal and Mikhail Leonov tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Novotroitsk FC booed when Volgograd was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aleksandr Bobylev didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Ivan Balbyshkin came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Volgograd fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ivan Balbyshkin couldn't finish the play. After having played for 28 minutes, Mikhail Leonov managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Novotroitsk FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mikhail Leonov was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Mikhail Leonov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. German Antyushin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Denis Gromovich tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Denis Gromovich didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Mikhail Leonov went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. Denis Gromovich stood somewhat misplaced when Mikhail Leonov came free in front of goal and shot 4-0 to the left of him in the 46 minute. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. German Antyushin was the one to do the kick off. When Grigoriy Pekarskiy fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Novotroitsk FC's protests and gave Grigoriy Pekarskiy a yellow card for diving instead.
