When Konstantin Kirichenko came up free with the goalie in the 28th minute, the Novokuybyshevsk fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Konstantin Kirichenko couldn't finish the play. After having played for 32 minutes, Gerasim Granov managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Derbent's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gerasim Granov was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in Derbent fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 40th minute. Penalty! Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Konstantin Kirichenko made a kick off. A collision led to Novokuybyshevsk getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Andrey Sur hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Derbent's zone, Fedot Pegin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Andrey Fomin came out of the goal and Fedot Pegin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Oleg Drashkovskiy made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gennadiy Bonikovskiy in the 74th minute. Gerasim Granov was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 75th minute. Derbent's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Oleg Drashkovskiy stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gerasim Granov's shot from short distance in the 84th minute. Fedot Pegin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Andrey Fomin having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Novokuybyshevsk's zone, Gennadiy Bonikovskiy stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oleg Drashkovskiy came out of the goal and Gennadiy Bonikovskiy tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gerasim Granov in the 93rd minute of play forced Novokuybyshevsk's goalkeeper Oleg Drashkovskiy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
