Rustam Mosheev might have been able to make a better finish in the 6th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ilya Kabanov. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rustam Mosheev ran back to his position shaking his head. Ilya Kabanov took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aleksey Novitskiy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Volgograd's Nikolay Tsenyshev got a free kick in the 18th minute. Volgograd were furious when Viktor Maslov was red carded, 27 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. In the 26th minute, one of Volgograd:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Volgograd. The referee gave Velikiy Novgorod FC a penalty, 29 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Kirill Dovlatov, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Volgograd's Iskander Shakhov. 1-0. Nikita Miklyuchev charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Nikita Miklyuchev the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 31st match minute, Velikiy Novgorod FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nikita Miklyuchev to maneuver through the defense. 33 minutes into the match, Aleksey Novitskiy had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ilya Kabanov. Velikiy Novgorod FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Aleksey Novitskiy was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Velikiy Novgorod FC's goalkeeper Ilya Kabanov, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Iskander Shakhov was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Lavrentiy Skvirskiy showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 40 minute of play. 48 minutes into the match, Volgograd's goal looked a bit too open when Roman Kalkatin came free, but Iskander Shakhov reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Roman Kalkatin made the kick off in the second half. After 51 minutes, Felix Litmanovich mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Volgograd and the Velikiy Novgorod FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Lavrentiy Skvirskiy blasted a shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Iskander Shakhov having to make a save. After 56 minutes, Viktor Osipov mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Volgograd and the Velikiy Novgorod FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Viktor Osipov hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Kirill Dovlatov, 57 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Lavrentiy Skvirskiy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Iskander Shakhov tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Volgograd's zone, Roman Kalkatin stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iskander Shakhov came out of the goal and Roman Kalkatin tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nikita Miklyuchev in the 68th minute of play forced Volgograd's goalkeeper Iskander Shakhov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Aleksey Novitskiy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ilya Kabanov having to interfere. After 78 minutes, Yuriy Ronin mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Velikiy Novgorod FC and the Volgograd players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 78th minute, Yuriy Ronin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some careless play in the Volgograd defense, Lavrentiy Skvirskiy kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Iskander Shakhov. The Volgograd fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Iskander Shakhov should have stopped the shot. If Aleksey Novitskiy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aleksey Novitskiy blasted a shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ilya Kabanov having to make a save. The supporters of Volgograd booed when Velikiy Novgorod FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nikita Miklyuchev didn't get a good kick on the ball. 95 minutes into the match, Roman Kalkatin notched a goal, 4-1, to the right of Volgograd's Iskander Shakhov. Iskander Shakhov was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Velikiy Novgorod FC walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
