With an all-out effort, Elets's Yuriy Romankov threw himself towards the right post 5 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Artem Erzakovich, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Elets's Lev Mamontov got a good chance for a goal in the 8th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lev Mamontov who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 10thth minute tested the skills of Yuriy Romankov when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Boris Skvoznov hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. If Yakov Cheruhin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Salavat FC's goalkeeper Yuriy Romankov, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of Elets booed when Salavat FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivan Mosalov didn't get a good kick on the ball. Yuriy Romankov was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Prokl Aldonin. Borislav Voloskov showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yakov Cheruhin in the 25th minute of the match. Artem Erzakovich fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yuriy Romankov having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, Salavat FC's goal looked a bit too open when Artem Erzakovich came free, but Yuriy Romankov reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 38 minutes into the match, Salavat FC's Yakov Cheruhin sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Borislav Voloskov narrowly saved just below the crossbar. If Boris Skvoznov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Yakov Cheruhin in the 58th minute of play forced Elets's goalkeeper Borislav Voloskov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 59 minutes, Lev Mamontov managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Elets's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lev Mamontov was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Lev Mamontov fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Yuriy Romankov having to interfere. Efim Timofeev sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 96th minute, Roman Temnov got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
