In the 33rd minute, Vologda's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Yakov Timashov fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Aleksandr Brum took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Afanasiy Solomatin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 81 played minutes Smolensk got a freekick which was hit by Gerasim Gerasimov. After 82 played minutes, Vologda's Anatoliy Boyarchikov shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Nikolay Evseev came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Vologda reached it. 86 minutes into the match, Vologda's goal looked a bit too open when Rustam Grek came free, but Aleksandr Brum reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Afanasiy Solomatin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the Smolensk defense, Kirill Gutkin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nikolay Evseev. The Smolensk fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nikolay Evseev should have stopped the shot.
