The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Sandu Bădoi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cengiz Kont having to interfere. A collision led to FC STEAUA BAIA MARE getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Gigi Hapaina hit a great ball. Cengiz Kont took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Petre Mazăre, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mugur Trifănucă fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ilie Hurmuz having to interfere. Petre Mazăre's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cengiz Kont read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. Cengiz Kont showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manole Condrea, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. Cengiz Kont showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Petre Mazăre in the 26th minute of the match. In the 29th minute Mugur Trifănucă shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ilie Hurmuz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 31st minute Petre Mazăre shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cengiz Kont saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 33 minutes into the match, FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's goal looked a bit too open when Petre Mazăre came free, but Cengiz Kont reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mugur Trifănucă in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ilie Hurmuz saved Aronesti CSM from getting behind. Mugur Trifănucă struck a weak shot in the 42nd minute. Ilie Hurmuz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC STEAUA BAIA MARE. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sandu Bădoi in the 44th minute of play forced FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's goalkeeper Cengiz Kont to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 46 played minutes Aronesti CSM got a freekick which was hit by Aurel Angheluță. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Mugur Trifănucă made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's goal looked a bit too open when Petre Mazăre came free, but Cengiz Kont reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cengiz Kont made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sandu Bădoi in the 54th minute. Cengiz Kont made a fantastic save in the 56th minute, when Sandu Bădoi sent off a good shot on target. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 70 minutes, Petre Mazăre mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Aronesti CSM and the FC STEAUA BAIA MARE players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 71st match minute, Aronesti CSM was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Petre Mazăre to maneuver through the defense. Ilie Hurmuz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mugur Trifănucă in the 72nd minute of play. FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's Cengiz Kont proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to save FC STEAUA BAIA MARE from getting a goal against them. Mugur Trifănucă sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Mugur Trifănucă recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Petre Mazăre in the 83rd minute of play forced FC STEAUA BAIA MARE's goalkeeper Cengiz Kont to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mugur Trifănucă received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Ilie Hurmuz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Petre Mazăre sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ilie Hurmuz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mugur Trifănucă, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. If Mugur Trifănucă had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 96th minute of the match, Sandu Bădoi got a very nice opportunity to score, but Cengiz Kont was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post.
