In the 3rdth minute of the game Mircea Cociubei who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Universitatea Cluj's David Slot was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 5 minutes into the match, Steaua Bucuresti's goal looked a bit too open when David Spiridon came free, but Marius Marinescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marius Marinescu made a fantastic save in the 7th minute, when Rareș Horhoianu sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, FC Universitatea Cluj's Răzvan Latarețu got a free kick in the 8th minute. Mircea Cociubei sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Marin Boc charged in rather forcefully in the 12th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Marin Boc the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 13th minute, Marin Boc hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 17th match minute, FC Universitatea Cluj was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Răzvan Latarețu to maneuver through the defense. After 18 played minutes, Steaua Bucuresti's Moise Brașoveanu shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper David Slot came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Steaua Bucuresti reached it. The FC Universitatea Cluj fans' excitement grew in the 21st match minute when FC Universitatea Cluj's David Spiridon looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rareș Horhoianu got free with Marius Marinescu in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 28 minutes of play, FC Universitatea Cluj's David Spiridon made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marius Marinescu was left in no man's land by his defense there! 33 minutes into the match, Steaua Bucuresti's goalkeeper Marius Marinescu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rareș Horhoianu. Marius Marinescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from David Spiridon in the 34th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Rareș Horhoianu managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Universitatea Cluj's supporters rose to their feet, but Rareș Horhoianu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marius Marinescu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 3-0 became the score in the 37th minute when David Spiridon elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. If Rareș Horhoianu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marius Marinescu made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Rareș Horhoianu sent off a good shot on target. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

Rareș Horhoianu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marius Marinescu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. Mircea Cociubei struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. David Slot didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Steaua Bucuresti. Marius Marinescu came out of the goal in the 54th minute to try and stop a shot by FC Universitatea Cluj's Marin Boc. But to his dismay, Marin Boc quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. After 61 played minutes FC Universitatea Cluj got a freekick which was hit by Valentin Mitu. Mircea Cociubei fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Slot having to interfere. The supporters of Steaua Bucuresti booed when FC Universitatea Cluj was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valentin Mitu didn't get a good kick on the ball. If David Spiridon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rareș Horhoianu took the ball and in the 80 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Marius Marinescu. Marius Marinescu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 6-0. Marius Marinescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rareș Horhoianu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mircea Cociubei got free with David Slot in the 85th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 88 played minutes, FC Universitatea Cluj's Răzvan Latarețu shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Marius Marinescu came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in FC Universitatea Cluj reached it. 93 minutes into the game, FC Universitatea Cluj's Rareș Horhoianu nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marius Marinescu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 8-0. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. FC Universitatea Cluj had played much better football throughout.
