Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gică Gâlcă in the 3rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Edgar Borcea prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ilie Amurăriței charged in rather forcefully in the 4th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ilie Amurăriței the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Mataraua CF getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Ilie Amurăriței hit a great ball. Daniel Neacșu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Cornel Biriș tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Claudiu Pitiș received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristi Iosif in the 19th minute of play forced Steaua FCS's goalkeeper Cornel Biriș to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Claudiu Pitiș's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Edgar Borcea read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. Daniel Neacșu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Edgar Borcea made an important save on a dangerous shot by Claudiu Pitiș in the 26th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Claudiu Pitiș managed to get in a good position for a shot. Steaua FCS's supporters rose to their feet, but Claudiu Pitiș was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edgar Borcea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 33rd minute Cristi Iosif shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cornel Biriș saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cristi Iosif sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cristi Iosif recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Claudiu Pitiș sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 46 minutes, Gigel Arghiroiu mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mataraua CF and the Steaua FCS players grew even worse after the yellow card. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

52 minutes into the game, Manole Petrin recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Cornel Biriș. Manole Petrin showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-1. Cristi Iosif could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 58th minute of the match, but Cornel Biriș made a huge save. Gică Gâlcă sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 63rdth minute of the game Daniel Neacșu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Steaua FCS's Cornel Biriș was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The audience was convinced that Daniel Neacșu's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cornel Biriș was relentless in the 72nd minute of the game. Claudiu Pitiș sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Steaua FCS's Cornel Biriș proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save Steaua FCS from getting a goal against them. Daniel Neacșu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Cornel Biriș tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gică Gâlcă struck a weak shot in the 80th minute. Edgar Borcea didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Steaua FCS. Edgar Borcea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudiu Pitiș in the 82nd minute of play. A collision led to Mataraua CF getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Ilie Amurăriței hit a great ball. Edgar Borcea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gică Gâlcă in the 84th minute of the match. 92 minutes into the match, Gică Gâlcă had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Edgar Borcea. Mataraua CF's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gică Gâlcă was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. 97 minutes into the match, Steaua FCS's goalkeeper Cornel Biriș had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristi Iosif. Steaua FCS's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
