Octavian Ghițulescu started the match with the kick off. When Ionuț Covaci fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vard CF's protests and gave Ionuț Covaci a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Batuta getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Mugur Hagi hit a great ball. Codruț Conta struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Laurențiu Buta didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Vard CF. In the 13th minute Octavian Ghițulescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Octav Huțanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Batuta booed when Vard CF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Filip Bornescu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Batuta's Octavian Ghițulescu got a good chance for a goal in the 15th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Codruț Conta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Batuta getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Vali Cartianu hit a great ball. In the 24th minute, Cezar Roşculeţ hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 25th minute, Marius Vancea got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Teodor Tonegaru fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Octav Huțanu having to interfere. In the 36th minute, Vard CF's Codruț Conta dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Codruț Conta in the 42nd minute of play forced Batuta's goalkeeper Laurențiu Buta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 44 minutes into the match, Batuta's Octavian Ghițulescu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Octav Huțanu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Virgil Milescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Laurențiu Buta having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Codruț Conta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Sever Vişoiu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Virgil Milescu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Laurențiu Buta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Octavian Ghițulescu had several of the Vard CF's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 67 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 2-1 score and a disappointed Octav Huțanu as he didn't even see the shot coming. Octav Huțanu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Teodor Tonegaru went, in the 73rd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. Laurențiu Buta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Codruț Conta in the 77th minute of play. Teodor Tonegaru fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Octav Huțanu having to interfere. If Teodor Tonegaru had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th match minute, Vard CF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Filip Bornescu to maneuver through the defense. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Octav Huțanu showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball.
