In the 4th minute Constantin Siclovan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iulian Prezan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ivan Gheorghiu hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Edgar Arghirescu was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 6th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. If Constantin Siclovan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Iulian Prezan stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gelu Brânzaș's shot from short distance in the 10th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eliodor Toacsen in the 14th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dragoş Zburlea prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Marin Băcila fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Phoenix's protests and gave Marin Băcila a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Phoenix's Marin Băcila got a free kick in the 16th minute. Gelu Brânzaș fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Iulian Prezan having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Barboiul's Augustin Gârniceanu got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Iulian Prezan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Constantin Siclovan, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Gelu Brânzaș received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Iulian Prezan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dragoş Zburlea made an important save on a dangerous shot by Niculae Ciorăscu in the 29th minute. 33 minutes into the match, Barboiul's goal looked a bit too open when Constantin Siclovan came free, but Iulian Prezan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dragoş Zburlea was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Niculae Ciorăscu showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 34 minute of play. Eliodor Toacsen might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dragoş Zburlea. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Eliodor Toacsen ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 43rd minute, Niculae Ciorăscu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Dragoş Zburlea was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Constantin Siclovan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Eliodor Toacsen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barboiul's supporters rose to their feet, but Eliodor Toacsen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dragoş Zburlea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Barboiul's Iulian Prezan got control of the ball when Gelu Brânzaș tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Barboiul booed when Phoenix was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marin Băcila didn't get a good kick on the ball. Barboiul's Niculae Ciorăscu got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Augustin Gârniceanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Dragoş Zburlea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 75 minutes into the match, Niculae Ciorăscu notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Phoenix's Dragoş Zburlea. Dragoş Zburlea was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Augustin Gârniceanu fell near the penalty area in the 80th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Eliodor Toacsen hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. Constantin Siclovan struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Iulian Prezan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Phoenix. Barboiul's Iulian Prezan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Constantin Siclovan in the 88th minute of play. Iulian Prezan made a fantastic save in the 97th minute, when Gelu Brânzaș sent off a good shot on target. Phoenix's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
