Olimpiu Ponor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vasile Răţescu having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Olimpiu Ponor in the 21st minute of play forced Cionchesti CS's goalkeeper Vasile Răţescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Stelian Povară fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cionchesti CS's protests and gave Stelian Povară a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of FC Iasi booed when Cionchesti CS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stelian Povară didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Dorel Brânzaș had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cionchesti CS's Vasile Răţescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emilian Lupea in the 34th minute of play. After 34 minutes of play, FC Iasi's Emilian Lupea made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Vasile Răţescu was left in no man's land by his defense there! During the 38th minute of the match Stelian Povară completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Stelian Povară a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. When the match had gone on for 40 minutes, Olimpiu Ponor put it in 3-2 from a short distance just to the right of Vasile Răţescu. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Olimpiu Ponor in the 48th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vasile Răţescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-2 at half-time.

Cionchesti CS's Vasile Răţescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emilian Lupea in the 81st minute of play. Gabriel Horațiu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dumitru Avacariței, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 86th minute, Cristian Iordănescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Dumitru Avacariței came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Cionchesti CS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dumitru Avacariței couldn't finish the play. Olimpiu Ponor could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 97th minute of the match, but Vasile Răţescu made a huge save. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. FC Iasi had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
