The Iasi fans' excitement grew in the 11th match minute when Iasi's Liviu Troncotă looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After a rather tough play, Varasti's Mihail Zdrăilă got a free kick in the 19th minute. 21 minutes into the match, Răzvan Istodor had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luca Cazimir. Varasti's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Răzvan Istodor was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mircea Drăghincescu got free with Florin Diculescu in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 29 minutes into the match, Varasti's goal looked a bit too open when Răzvan Istodor came free, but Luca Cazimir reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 30th minute, Iasi's Mihai Tudor seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Mihai Tudor the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Iasi protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Mihai Tudor had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 34th minute Victor Bobei shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Florin Diculescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 41 played minutes Iasi got a freekick which was hit by Tudor Vârjean. 46 minutes into the match, Petru Dobrea had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luca Cazimir. Varasti's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Petru Dobrea was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Victor Bobei was the one to do the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Călin Dumitrachescu during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Varasti getting a freekick after 54 minutes play. Călin Dumitrachescu hit a great ball. Florin Diculescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mircea Drăghincescu in the 57th minute of play. 62 minutes into the match, Liviu Troncotă had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luca Cazimir. Varasti's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Liviu Troncotă was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-4. If Mihail Zdrăilă had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Florin Diculescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Victor Bobei in the 67th minute of play. 73 minutes into the match, Iasi's goal looked a bit too open when Victor Bobei came free, but Florin Diculescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Florin Diculescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cosmin Ardeleanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. With a little luck, Varasti's Luca Cazimir got control of the ball when Liviu Troncotă tried to sneak it across the goal line. Iasi's Florin Diculescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mircea Drăghincescu in the 84th minute of play. Cornel Tatomir sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the match was over Iasi could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Varasti throughout the match.
