Marian Popoiu yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. When Toader Cristoiu fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Steaua FC Iasi's protests and gave Toader Cristoiu a yellow card for diving instead. After 17 played minutes Niculae Curuțiu shot from long distance. At first the shot seemed to be simple for Steaua FC Iasi's Marian Popoiu to catch but Niculae Curuțiu was lucky. It became 2-0 after the goalkeeper had been careless and dropped the ball into goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marian Nediu in the 20th minute of play forced Steaua FC Iasi's goalkeeper Marian Popoiu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Steaua FC Iasi's Vasile Colin got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 83 minutes into the game, Viorel Gavra cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-1. Marian Popoiu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Viorel Gavra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Marian Popoiu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FCSB fully deserved thier win.
