Doru Crișan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jim Grall in the 7th minute of the match. Leontin Maghiar made a fantastic save in the 8th minute, when Aurelian Păltineanu sent off a good shot on target. 12 minutes into the match, F.C. Brasov's Jim Grall sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Doru Crișan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Aurelian Păltineanu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Aurelian Păltineanu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Leontin Maghiar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. David Cârnu made in the 22nd minute of the game a quick throw-in and Florin Toader immediately put the ball in play. Doru Crișan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Viorel Nandriș, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. After a rather tough play, FC STEAUA BUCURESTI's David Cârnu got a free kick in the 24th minute. 27 minutes into the match, F.C. Brasov's Jim Grall sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Doru Crișan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jim Grall in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Doru Crișan saved FC STEAUA BUCURESTI from getting behind. 30 minutes into the match, FC STEAUA BUCURESTI's goal looked a bit too open when Ioan Simionaş came free, but Doru Crișan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jim Grall blasted a shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Doru Crișan having to make a save. After having played for 36 minutes, Florin Toader managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC STEAUA BUCURESTI's supporters crossed their fingers, but Florin Toader was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in F.C. Brasov's zone, Florin Toader stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leontin Maghiar came out of the goal and Florin Toader tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aurelian Păltineanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leontin Maghiar having to interfere. Daniel Negulescu kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Calistrat Mironescu managed to get in a good position for a shot. F.C. Brasov's supporters rose to their feet, but Calistrat Mironescu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Doru Crișan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nae Vârnav kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Aurelian Păltineanu to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aurelian Păltineanu in the 53rd minute of play forced F.C. Brasov's goalkeeper Leontin Maghiar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Șerban Corbu's late challenge caught a F.C. Brasov's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Șerban Corbu helped the player get up and apologised. After 56 played minutes FC STEAUA BUCURESTI got a freekick which was hit by Șerban Corbu. David Cosoreanu charged in rather forcefully in the 68th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed David Cosoreanu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Viorel Nandriș struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Doru Crișan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for F.C. Brasov. Gustavo Borja hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Leontin Maghiar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Călin Apostu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Negulescu kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. FC STEAUA BUCURESTI's Daniel Negulescu got his second yellow card of the match in the 80th minute. The referee ordered Daniel Negulescu off the ground. In the 80th minute, Daniel Negulescu hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Calistrat Mironescu, 81 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Brasov:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for F.C. Brasov. Bogdan Abrudan shot the penalty kick right outside the post. In the 94th minute, Viorel Nandriș hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Florin Toader sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 97 minutes, Ioan Simionaş mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the F.C. Brasov and the FC STEAUA BUCURESTI players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 97th minute, Ioan Simionaş hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. F.C. Brasov succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though FC STEAUA BUCURESTI had controlled the match.
