An unexpectedly hard shot by Bogdan Giurgiu in the 22nd minute of play forced FC Universitatea Craiova's goalkeeper Dorin Gliga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cornatelul FCM's Calistrat Ivăncioiu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gică Dobrinescu in the 36th minute of play. In the 38th minute of the match Tiberiu Alexa shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Calistrat Ivăncioiu showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Van Persia in the 46th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Calistrat Ivăncioiu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Van Persia was the one to do the kick off. With a little luck, Cornatelul FCM's Calistrat Ivăncioiu got control of the ball when Van Persia tried to sneak it across the goal line. 55 minutes into the match, FC Universitatea Craiova's goal looked a bit too open when Bogdan Giurgiu came free, but Dorin Gliga reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Calistrat Ivăncioiu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gică Dobrinescu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 58th match minute, Cornatelul FCM was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maxim Tăzlăuanu to maneuver through the defense. After 59 played minutes Cornatelul FCM got a freekick which was hit by Aron Grigorie. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Van Persia managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Universitatea Craiova's supporters rose to their feet, but Van Persia was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Calistrat Ivăncioiu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Cornatelul FCM getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Maxim Tăzlăuanu hit a great ball. 82 minutes into the match, FC Universitatea Craiova's Gică Dobrinescu sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Calistrat Ivăncioiu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Gică Dobrinescu kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Calistrat Ivăncioiu. That made the score 0-1 in the 85 minute of play. 88 minutes into the match, Cornatelul FCM's goalkeeper Calistrat Ivăncioiu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Van Persia. With a little luck, Cornatelul FCM's Calistrat Ivăncioiu got control of the ball when Van Persia tried to sneak it across the goal line. When FC Universitatea Craiova's Van Persia in 94 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Calistrat Ivăncioiu guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. 0-2 became the score in the 95th minute when Gică Dobrinescu elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. When the final whistle sounded FC Universitatea Craiova left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Cornatelul FCM.
