Merii FCM's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Mugur Crețu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tudor Bălcescu in the 45th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Iurie Jugănaru got free with Mugur Crețu in the 66th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Iacob Chibulcutean could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 68th minute of the match, but Mugur Crețu made a huge save. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 68th minute of the game. One of Merii FCM:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Valencia:s goal. In the 71st minute of the game, Valencia got a penalty. The shot went straight in by the left post. When Marius Cuculeanu fell near the penalty area in the 83rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Valencia's protests and gave Marius Cuculeanu a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Valencia getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Marius Cuculeanu hit a great ball. If Mihail Frențiu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Tudor Bălcescu helped the player get up and apologised. When Mihail Frențiu came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Merii FCM fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mihail Frențiu couldn't finish the play. Manuel Mavrogheni stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mihail Frențiu's shot from short distance in the 97th minute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Valencia had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
