Felix Spiridon showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. 8 minutes into the match, Demsus's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Spiridon came free, but Petru Creteanu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Demsus's Petru Creteanu got control of the ball when Mircea Bărbătescu tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Demsus getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Aron Nediu hit a great ball. Steaua FCSB's Sergiu Pelin got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 14 minutes into the match, Demsus's goal looked a bit too open when Sergiu Pelin came free, but Petru Creteanu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 15th minute of the match, Dinu Tecău got a very nice opportunity to score, but Petru Creteanu was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Steaua FCSB's Costică Diaconescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Petru Dersidan in the 16th minute of play. With an all-out effort, Steaua FCSB's Petru Creteanu threw himself towards the right post 18 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Sergiu Pelin, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. An unexpectedly hard shot by Iordache Buciuman in the 23rd minute of play forced Steaua FCSB's goalkeeper Costică Diaconescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 23 played minutes Steaua FCSB got a freekick which was hit by Felix Spiridon. In the 24th minute, Petru Dersidan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Costică Diaconescu took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Iordache Buciuman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Petru Creteanu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mircea Bărbătescu in the 28th minute. After a rather tough play, Demsus's Aron Nediu got a free kick in the 28th minute. Petru Creteanu acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 29th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Valentin Mangra. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sergiu Pelin in the 32nd minute of play forced Demsus's goalkeeper Petru Creteanu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Costică Diaconescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Iordache Buciuman, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Albert Dășanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Costică Diaconescu having to interfere. In the 43rd minute, Sergiu Pelin reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Petru Creteanu. The goal made the score 2-0. Iordache Buciuman scored 2-1 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Costică Diaconescu, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mihai Râznicu to make the kick off. Petru Creteanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felix Spiridon in the 59th minute of play. Aron Nediu lost his temper 60 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. 59 minutes into the game, one of Demsus:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 62 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Steaua FCSB's Valentin Mangra fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. In the 64th minute, Dinu Tecău ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Petru Creteanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. Petru Creteanu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sergiu Pelin in the 67th minute of the match. The supporters of Steaua FCSB booed when Demsus was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marin Gușatu didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 70 played minutes, Steaua FCSB's Valentin Mangra shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Petru Creteanu came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Steaua FCSB reached it. Petru Creteanu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mircea Bărbătescu in the 72nd minute of play. That made the score 3-2 after 87 minutes of play. 95 minutes into the game, Cazimir Grecea was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Steaua FCSB's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Demsus the free kick. Demsus made a substitution. Ovidiu Iovanovici replaced Petru Dersidan. Cazimir Grecea kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match.
