Ion Cârstea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mugurel Amânaloae in the 14th minute of the match. After 16 minutes of play Gainesti's Ovidiu Nițulescu was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 17th minute of the match David Manea sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but David Murgan skillfully saved the ball. David Murgan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vali Homeag, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
