The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 3rd minute of the game. One of ASU Politehnica Timisoara:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of STEAUA BUCUREȘTI:s goal. Constantin Chircu placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! In the 8th minute, Dan Muja ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Iacob Bârsescu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Dan Muja took the ball and in the 11 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Iacob Bârsescu. Iacob Bârsescu dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. In the 18th minute Radu Haidău shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iacob Bârsescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Paul Zglimbea made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Dacian Greavu sent off a good shot on target. Iacob Bârsescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dan Muja in the 21st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dan Muja in the 26th minute of play forced ASU Politehnica Timisoara's goalkeeper Iacob Bârsescu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 27th minute Radu Haidău shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iacob Bârsescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Eusebiu Chitimia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. ASU Politehnica Timisoara's Iacob Bârsescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dan Muja in the 33rd minute of play. A collision led to ASU Politehnica Timisoara getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Narcis Pumnu hit a great ball. After 35 played minutes, STEAUA BUCUREȘTI's Constantin Chircu shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Iacob Bârsescu came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in STEAUA BUCUREȘTI reached it. In the 36thth minute of the game Cosmin Tofan who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but STEAUA BUCUREȘTI's Paul Zglimbea was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Iacob Bârsescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dan Muja, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. An unexpected shot in the 44th minute by Cosmin Tofan got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The supporters of ASU Politehnica Timisoara booed when STEAUA BUCUREȘTI was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eric Uncheşu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cosmin Tofan in the 48th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paul Zglimbea prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The ASU Politehnica Timisoara players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. STEAUA BUCUREȘTI were winning 0-2.

George Leucuța could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Iacob Bârsescu made a huge save. Dacian Greavu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paul Zglimbea having to interfere. 57 minutes into the match, STEAUA BUCUREȘTI's goal looked a bit too open when Cosmin Tofan came free, but Paul Zglimbea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 60 minutes, Cosmin Tofan made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. STEAUA BUCUREȘTI's Paul Zglimbea tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Dacian Greavu managed to get in a good position for a shot. ASU Politehnica Timisoara's supporters rose to their feet, but Dacian Greavu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paul Zglimbea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. ASU Politehnica Timisoara's Cosmin Tofan got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dacian Greavu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th minute, Cosmin Tofan left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ASU Politehnica Timisoara fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. With an all-out effort, STEAUA BUCUREȘTI's Iacob Bârsescu threw himself towards the right post 77 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Dan Muja, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Viorel Gârdan during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Narcis Pumnu hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. When Eusebiu Chitimia came up free with the goalie in the 82nd minute, the STEAUA BUCUREȘTI fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eusebiu Chitimia couldn't finish the play. In the 84th minute, Viorel Chelbea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. STEAUA BUCUREȘTI's Constantin Chircu got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to ASU Politehnica Timisoara getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Viorel Gârdan hit a great ball. Viorel Chelbea charged in rather forcefully in the 87th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Viorel Chelbea the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, ASU Politehnica Timisoara's Viorel Chelbea got a free kick in the 87th minute. Dacian Greavu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Paul Zglimbea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cosmin Tofan in the 97th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. ASU Politehnica Timisoara had won after a very even match.
