Cristian Ploieșteanu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 6th minute of the match, but Lucian Popeneciu made a huge save. Cristi Corduneanu hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. In the 11th minute Cristian Ploieșteanu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lucian Popeneciu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 15th minute, Cristian Ploieșteanu fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Lucian Popeneciu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Ploieșteanu in the 16th minute. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lucian Popeneciu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Steaua Bucuresti's Hami Geçer played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mugurel Stanciu in the 42nd minute of play. After 47 minutes of play, Steaua Bucuresti's Cristian Ploieșteanu made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Lucian Popeneciu was left in no man's land by his defense there! The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Mugurel Stanciu to make the kick off. When the match clock showed 60 minutes, the score became 2-0 when Cristian Ploieșteanu sped through F.C Petru B.U.C's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Lucian Popeneciu. Steaua Bucuresti's Roel Meertens was substituted for Doru Dănănae. In the 67th minute, Olimpiu Zdrelea hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. F.C Petru B.U.C's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Calistrat Lovin ran over to the corner to take the kick. When Billie Tesla fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Steaua Bucuresti's protests and gave Billie Tesla a yellow card for diving instead. In the 96th match minute, Steaua Bucuresti was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Billie Tesla to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Steaua Bucuresti had won after a very even match.
