Konstantīns Priladiss tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 7 minutes, Leons Vārpulis successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Mazboja's Pēteris Meitiņš suffered a sore thigh after 8 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Ādams Blāķis's late challenge caught a Mazboja's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ādams Blāķis helped the player get up and apologised. After 9 played minutes Smiltini got a freekick which was hit by Ādams Blāķis. After 11 minutes, Māris Zigmunds mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Smiltini and the Mazboja players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Smiltini getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Māris Zigmunds hit a great ball. In the 13th minute, Arnis Benders ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Leons Vārpulis was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Konstantīns Priladiss stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Uldis Kalps's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Uldis Kalps struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Konstantīns Priladiss didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Smiltini. 24 minutes into the game, Mazboja's Arnis Benders nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Leons Vārpulis made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. After having played for 28 minutes, Uldis Kalps managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Smiltini's supporters crossed their fingers, but Uldis Kalps was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arnis Benders got free with Leons Vārpulis in the 41st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.
The wind increased when Arnis Benders made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Mazboja's Miervaldis Straumanis got a free kick in the 54th minute. Konstantīns Priladiss showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Uldis Kalps, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Arnis Benders blasted a shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Leons Vārpulis having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in Smiltini's zone, Arnis Benders stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leons Vārpulis came out of the goal and Arnis Benders tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Uldis Kalps in the 74th minute of play forced Mazboja's goalkeeper Konstantīns Priladiss to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Arnis Benders had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 77th minute, Arnis Benders ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Leons Vārpulis was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. 88 minutes into the game, Egons Lajuks was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mazboja's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Smiltini the free kick. The supporters of Smiltini booed when Mazboja was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Egons Lajuks didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 89th minute, Madis Ponculs sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Mazboja's Konstantīns Priladiss didn't even have to move. 92 minutes into the match, Smiltini's goal looked a bit too open when Arnis Benders came free, but Leons Vārpulis reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Klaudijs Buturovičs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Smiltini's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
