The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gunvaldis Saknītis in the 5thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Artūrs Žīgurs, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Gunvaldis Saknītis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Artūrs Žīgurs tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 11th match minute, PFK Mellupes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andris Sermonis to maneuver through the defense. Kazimirs Rumbenieks showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Agris Pulks in the 19th minute of the match. PFK Sarnate's Atis Bringulis got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Agris Pulks hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Olavs Darvenis charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Olavs Darvenis the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of PFK Sarnate booed when PFK Mellupes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Olavs Darvenis didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Agris Pulks managed to get in a good position for a shot. PFK Sarnate's supporters rose to their feet, but Agris Pulks was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kazimirs Rumbenieks breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 32nd minute, Atis Bringulis got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Agris Pulks took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Kazimirs Rumbenieks. Kazimirs Rumbenieks dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. With a little luck, PFK Sarnate's Artūrs Žīgurs got control of the ball when Gunvaldis Saknītis tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Roberts Levanovics had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 57th minute, Gunvaldis Saknītis ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Artūrs Žīgurs was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. In the 63rd minute, Gunvaldis Saknītis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The PFK Mellupes fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. Gunvaldis Saknītis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Agris Pulks's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kazimirs Rumbenieks read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Atis Bringulis in the 82nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Kazimirs Rumbenieks prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Agris Pulks had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. PFK Mellupes had won after a very even match.
