The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Miglius Jarošas's late challenge caught a Purmaliai's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ropanis's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Purmaliai the free kick. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Liudvikas Stonkus couldn't finish the play. With a little luck, Ropanis's Aidas Kantauskas got control of the ball when Lauras Venclova tried to sneak it across the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Ropanis's Aidas Kantauskas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Liudvikas Stonkus in the 52nd minute of play.
