Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Mick Beckett started the match with the kick off. Tom Holdsworth showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronan Whittaker, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. 7 minutes into the match, The Gay Village's goal looked a bit too open when Mick Beckett came free, but Jamie Leatherdale reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Les Bates received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Jamie Leatherdale tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With an all-out effort, The Gay Village's Tom Holdsworth threw himself towards the right post 13 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ronan Whittaker, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 14 minutes into the match, Ken Lester had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tom Holdsworth. Dove Holes's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ken Lester was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Les Bates sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Tom Holdsworth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ronan Whittaker in the 24th minute of play. After 29 minutes, Robin Le Tissier mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the The Gay Village and the Dove Holes players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to The Gay Village getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Robin Le Tissier hit a great ball. 37 minutes into the match, Dove Holes's goal looked a bit too open when Ronan Whittaker came free, but Tom Holdsworth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 49th minute, Dove Holes's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Ken Lester fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ronan Whittaker to strike the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Dove Holes's Gordon Myers got a free kick in the 52nd minute. After 54 minutes, Ronan Whittaker made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Dove Holes's Tom Holdsworth tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Mick Beckett received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Jamie Leatherdale tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dove Holes's Mick Beckett got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jamie Leatherdale stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mick Beckett's shot from short distance in the 67th minute. Mick Beckett received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Jamie Leatherdale tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, The Gay Village's Geoff Barrett got a free kick in the 69th minute. Kevin Black's late challenge caught a The Gay Village's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kevin Black helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Dove Holes getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Kevin Black hit a great ball. The Gay Village's Jamie Leatherdale played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mick Beckett in the 79th minute of play. After some careless play in the Dove Holes defense, Ronan Whittaker kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tom Holdsworth. The Dove Holes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tom Holdsworth should have stopped the shot. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rodd Platt during the 87th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Dove Holes's Rodd Platt got a free kick in the 87th minute. Tom Holdsworth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ken Lester in the 91st minute of play. Les Bates recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. For all the effort they put into the match, the Dove Holes players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for The Gay Village.
