After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Paschalis Batsidis managed to get in a good position for a shot. Panathinaikos AO's supporters rose to their feet, but Paschalis Batsidis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Themistoklis Bougatsas breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 38 minutes, Themis Provatidis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panathinaikos AO's supporters crossed their fingers, but Themis Provatidis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Themis Provatidis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. Gourounáki's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Panathinaikos AO the free kick. Thomas Torosidis kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Thanks to some nice moves Paschalis Batsidis could shoot a difficult shot in the 56th minute, which Themistoklis Bougatsas however easily saved by the left post. When Fragiskos Tzanetakos fell near the penalty area in the 66th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Panathinaikos AO's protests and gave Fragiskos Tzanetakos a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Panathinaikos AO's Fragiskos Tzanetakos got a free kick in the 66th minute. Stratos Bletsas's late challenge caught a Gourounáki's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Stratos Bletsas helped the player get up and apologised. In the 69th minute, Stratos Bletsas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thomas Torosidis in the 73rd minute of play forced Panathinaikos AO's goalkeeper Vladimiros Tsoukalis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Vladimiros Tsoukalis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thomas Torosidis, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Gourounáki were awarded a corner in the 78th minute after Panathinaikos AO's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Charalambos Giotis took the corner. The attack was good, but when Paschalis Batsidis in the 80th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Thanasis Moutafis couldn't finish the play.
