Osmo Pasanen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aki Tähtinen, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. Mikael Puumala didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Salomon Sanevuori went, in the 9th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Pentti Lumio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Toimi Salminen hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Orvo Hämäläinen sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 20 minutes of play, Petes IFK's Aki Tähtinen made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Osmo Pasanen was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Toimi Salminen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mikael Puumala made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Orvo Hämäläinen in the 28th minute of play. After 29 minutes, Alvar Nitti mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Petes IFK and the Mustanisdfemi IFK players grew even worse after the yellow card. Mustanisdfemi IFK made a substitution. Miska Pihlainen replaced Taavi Kotilahti. The supporters of Mustanisdfemi IFK booed when Petes IFK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alvar Nitti didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jarno Blom sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mikael Puumala made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pentti Lumio in the 35th minute. With an all-out effort, Mustanisdfemi IFK's Mikael Puumala threw himself towards the right post 38 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Taisto Vihermäki, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. When Pentti Lumio came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Mustanisdfemi IFK fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pentti Lumio couldn't finish the play. Jarno Blom sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jarno Blom was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Orvo Hämäläinen notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Petes IFK's Mikael Puumala. Mikael Puumala was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Orvo Hämäläinen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mustanisdfemi IFK's supporters rose to their feet, but Orvo Hämäläinen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mikael Puumala breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Petes IFK's Mikael Puumala played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jarno Blom in the 59th minute of play. Mikael Puumala didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Orvo Hämäläinen went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. In the 67th minute the ball was on its way in behind Mustanisdfemi IFK's goalkeeper Osmo Pasanen, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The long shot by Risto Sainomaa in the 69th minute really tested Osmo Pasanen's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Aimo Vihtilä hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. A collision led to Petes IFK getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Alvar Reponen hit a great ball. Jarno Blom's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Mikael Puumala read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 88th minute of play. Salomon Sanevuori received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Mikael Puumala tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mikael Puumala made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jarno Blom in the 90th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Petes IFK's zone, Jarno Blom stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mikael Puumala came out of the goal and Jarno Blom tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 93 played minutes Petes IFK got a freekick which was hit by Risto Sainomaa. Jarno Blom, 93 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Pentti Lumio blasted a shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mikael Puumala having to make a save. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Mustanisdfemi IFK had played much better football throughout.
