The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute of the match, Tolis Terovolas got a very nice opportunity to score, but Thoralf Hong was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Antaios Pezos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dimosthenis Horiatis in the 7th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Sfína's zone, Dimosthenis Horiatis stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Antaios Pezos came out of the goal and Dimosthenis Horiatis tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 15 minutes into the match, Dimosthenis Horiatis had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Antaios Pezos. Sfína's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Dimosthenis Horiatis was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After 18 minutes of play, Apoel Stars's Dimosthenis Horiatis made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Antaios Pezos was left in no man's land by his defense there! Kheiron Balouris kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. In the 24th minute, Sfína's Oinomoas Chronis dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agis Michalaras in the 28th minute of play forced Sfína's goalkeeper Antaios Pezos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Oinomoas Chronis made a kick off. In the 53rd minute, Dimosthenis Horiatis made a precise shot to the right of Antaios Pezos. Sfína's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-6. Dimosthenis Horiatis succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-7 in the 59th playminute. Dimosthenis Horiatis took the ball and in the 63 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Antaios Pezos. Antaios Pezos dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-8. Lykomedes Demas hit a great freekick 66 minutes into the match. The supporters of Sfína booed when Apoel Stars was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dimosthenis Dioletis didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 69th match minute, Sfína was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nontas Papanicolaou to maneuver through the defense. Antaios Pezos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dimosthenis Horiatis in the 70th minute.
