Spectators: 39 (Terracing: 30, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Todd Dumpleton took the kick off in the first half of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jasper Newell got free with Buster Hampshire in the 3rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Nick Nailor showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bobby Dobson, who was totally free with the ball in the 6th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bobby Dobson in the 7th minute of play forced Newlyn East FC's goalkeeper Nick Nailor to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 9th minute, Darryl Fenwick ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nick Nailor was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Brendon Featherstone's late challenge caught a Rye AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Brendon Featherstone helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Rye AFC booed when Newlyn East FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Brendon Featherstone didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bobby Dobson might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nick Nailor. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bobby Dobson ran back to his position shaking his head. David Burnett charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed David Burnett the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Newlyn East FC getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. David Burnett hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Newlyn East FC's zone, Bobby Dobson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nick Nailor came out of the goal and Bobby Dobson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jasper Newells short, quick shot in the 26thth minute got Buster Hampshire to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 28 minutes into the game, Todd Dumpleton recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Buster Hampshire. Todd Dumpleton showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. Todd Dumpleton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Buster Hampshire having to interfere. In the 34th minute, Jasper Newell fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. A collision led to Rye AFC getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Dion Hatcher hit a great ball. Newlyn East FC's supporters stood up full of expectation in the 37th minute of the game, when Graeme Dearden after an extraordinary solo performance found himself with a golden opportunity in front of Rye AFC's goal. Graeme Dearden was unfortunally a little to anxious and the ball went outside the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jasper Newell got free with Buster Hampshire in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Rye AFC's zone, Jasper Newell stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Buster Hampshire came out of the goal and Jasper Newell tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Darryl Fenwick was the one to do the kick off. Rye AFC's Buster Hampshire played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Todd Dumpleton in the 55th minute of play. Darryl Fenwick fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nick Nailor having to interfere. Mickey French hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Bobby Dobson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Nick Nailor showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Darryl Fenwick, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Freddy Easton charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Freddy Easton the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Rye AFC's Freddy Easton got a free kick in the 65th minute. In the 68th minute of the match Newlyn East FC got a corner. Rye AFC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Graeme Dearden ran over to the corner to take the kick. Newlyn East FC's Graeme Dearden was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Buster Hampshire in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Jasper Newell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Buster Hampshire having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Todd Dumpleton in the 72nd minute of play forced Rye AFC's goalkeeper Buster Hampshire to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 74thth minute of the game Jasper Newell who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rye AFC's Buster Hampshire was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 76th minute Darryl Fenwick shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nick Nailor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Darryl Fenwick had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jasper Newell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Buster Hampshire tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nick Nailor made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Darryl Fenwick in the 96th minute of play. Darryl Fenwick fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nick Nailor having to interfere. Rye AFC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
