After some careless play in the Shrewsbury City defense, Stanislav Alshevskiy kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pavel Popov. The Shrewsbury City fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pavel Popov should have stopped the shot. Stamford's Stanislav Alshevskiy got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 47th minute of the match Evgeniy Kotov sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Zinoviy Popovskiy skillfully saved the ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
