The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd match minute, Scunthorpe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ayati Siddhu to maneuver through the defense. Bali Agrawal was out of position in the 10 minute of play, and Balastha Das capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Balastha Das really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. When Kapil Chohan fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newport Unweited's protests and gave Kapil Chohan a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Newport Unweited getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Kapil Chohan hit a great ball. Jujhar Jethani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Devarha Hundal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Balastha Das received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Bali Agrawal came out and tried to block the shot, but Balastha Das slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Kamaljeet Linyu took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Bali Agrawal to make any attempt to save it. In the 28th match minute, Scunthorpe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dirghadarsana Chana to maneuver through the defense. In the 31st minute, Balamadi Tind got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jujhar Jethani received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Devarha Hundal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Jujhar Jethani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Devarha Hundal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Balamadi Tind in the 38th minute of the match. In the 43rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Scunthorpe's goalkeeper Devarha Hundal, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Jujhar Jethani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Mahendra Shindi kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The wind increased when Balastha Das made the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kamaljeet Linyu in the 53rd minute of play forced Newport Unweited's goalkeeper Bali Agrawal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Newport Unweited defense, Kamaljeet Linyu kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bali Agrawal. The Newport Unweited fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bali Agrawal should have stopped the shot. Kamaljeet Linyu recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 61st match minute, Newport Unweited was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ajaparsva Desai to maneuver through the defense. In the 62ndth minute of the game Balastha Das who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Newport Unweited's Bali Agrawal was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Jujhar Jethani charged in rather forcefully in the 63rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jujhar Jethani the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Jujhar Jethani hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. A collision led to Newport Unweited getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Jujhar Jethani hit a great ball. 68 minutes into the match, Newport Unweited's goal looked a bit too open when Kamaljeet Linyu came free, but Bali Agrawal reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Bali Agrawal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Balastha Das in the 71st minute of play. Balamadi Tind kicked well hit freekick during the 73rd minute of the match. When Mahendra Shindi fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Scunthorpe's protests and gave Mahendra Shindi a yellow card for diving instead. Mahendra Shindi hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. The supporters of Scunthorpe booed when Newport Unweited was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ajaparsva Desai didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kamaljeet Linyu, 81 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After some careless play in the Newport Unweited defense, Kamaljeet Linyu kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bali Agrawal. The Newport Unweited fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bali Agrawal should have stopped the shot. In the 92nd minute, Jujhar Jethani fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Devarha Hundal, passed just outside the right post. If Bhupen Rani had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
